About

Jeb's Game is a virtual reality(VR) game aimed at assisting children and people of all ages with disabilities with learning the alphabet and basic reading skills. We're made up of VR Developers, Teachers, Linguists, 3D Modelers, Graphic Designers, Web Developers, Audio Engineers and more.

Briefing

Jeb's Game was inspired by Jeb and his brother Rett's posting on reddit. This discord serves to help make their dream a reality.

THANK YOU for your consideration in volunteering!

We use the Agile Methodology

By using the Agile Software Development Methodology, we are able to have multiple teams working together, giving us flexibility to respond to change and ability to easily pivot on this unique project.

This project has a new design and is very exploratory. Because of this, it will require subject matter experts to collaborate with developers on designing and revising VR interactions. An agile approach will allow our team to explore the feasibility of ideas in short cycles and quickly adapt based on evaluation and feedback.

Sprint Breakdown

During the beginning of a sprint, the server will vote on Game Mode ideas created to fulfill that sprint’s literacy skill. The idea awarded the most votes, and two others chosen by our subject matter experts, will be selected for that week’s sprint. A Red Team, Yellow Team, and Blue Team will be created and tasked with developing one of the three game mode ideas. Members have the opportunity to join any team or work independently on a game mode idea that is not covered by one of the three teams.

At the end of the second week, playtesting will begin on the game mode prototypes. During this phase, play testers will fill out a small survey related to the game’s effectiveness, broken down into metrics such as: player engagement, perceived cognitive strain, replayability, and overall enjoyment. The survey results will be used to generate a usability report for each prototype. The team behind the best performing prototype will be awarded $100 USD to either be split amongst its members or offered in whole to the teammate of their choice.

During week three and four of the sprint, members will develop and refine a high production value version of the winning game mode idea, creating it as a level of Jeb’s game, and pushing it to the project’s repository. All assets and any new or novel interactions developed during prototyping will be added to a separate public repository. Members can pull from this when designing new interactions.
